Who knew there was so much to know about baby diapers! Going into having a kiddo, I figured you put them on, change them when they are full and that was that. Boy oh boy was I wrong. So here is some baby diapers basics!
For starters, highly recommend doing a diaper drawl at your baby shower. We are going on 7 months of not having to buy diapers right now, and I must say, it’s very nice!
If you do, do a diaper drawl at the shower, you’re more than likely going to get a lot of one size and not use them all. Stores like Target (up to $500), Meijer, Walmart, Costco and Kroger – I am sure there are much more, will let you return them with no receipt. They give you a gift card and you can just go buy the next size you need. HOWEVER, most of them will not return the bigger boxes (over $50). So I highly recommend using the bigger boxes first, that way if you need to exchange any, you can exchange the smaller ones with no issues. Also, when returning in the stores, make sure the store sells the brand, or else they will not return them.
Next, diapers come in sizes (1, 2, 3, 4 etc). The way to know when you have to go up a size, is when your kiddo starts wetting out the side of the diaper. I have found the lbs for each diaper is pretty accurate. Size 1 does not equal month 1.
We have been very lucky and have not had any issues with diaper rashes and such. If your baby does, and you find a specific brand you like, they usually have a rewards system. I would sign up for that to gain points and freebees. Along with freebees, there are a lot of diaper places that will give you a “fee” sample, you just have to pay for shipping. Just see if it is actually worth the coast.
Usually, the diaper will say front and back on it in, however, the flaps with the sticky on them, go in the back. There is an elastic band in the diaper, make sure to fan that out a little so it fits around your baby’s legs to prevent leakage. On the front there is usually circles, stars or some symbol to show you were the flaps should stick when you put the diaper on.

I know this is a little more of a boring post, but it’s the small things you don’t think of until they happen and then you are like well of course that makes sense, I just never had to think of it.
